10 Things You Can Do

to Strengthen Arizona's Families

1. Be a Strong Role Model for Your Children.
You are your child’s first and strongest role model. Model positive and responsible behavior.  Your children learn how to behave by watching your behavior. The way that you act in your marriage or relationships, with your family and with others will influence all future generations.

2. Talk to Your Children…They Need You.
Talk to your children about things that are important to you. Take time to listen to them. Communication builds closer and stronger relationships. You need to initiate the dialogue. Talk to them about sex and the benefits of delaying sex until marriage. Help them build healthy relationship skills and life skills.

3. Celebrate Marriage.
If you are married, continually grow in your own marriage relationship. It is one of the best things that you can do for yourself and your children.

4. Support the Single Parent Families Around You.
Look for opportunities to provide appropriate assistance. Mentoring plays a crucial role in the lives of fatherless and motherless children.

5. Institute Family-Friendly Workplace Policies at Work.
Make active parenting a priority in your workplace. Troubles at home eventually translate to troubles at work. Having a healthy and balanced life is a key component of a strong family.

6. Advocate for Responsible Media.
Express your concerns about irresponsible media directly to television, cable, broadcasting, advertising and music industries.

7. Encourage Your Church or Place of Worship to Be Involved.
Encourage your church or place of worship to create an environment that supports the development and maintenance of strong families.

8. Be Informed.
Make a commitment to stay informed about the problems that face Arizona’s children and families. Contact elected officials and voice your concerns.

9. Monitor the Newspaper and Respond on Important Issues.
Write a letter to the editor on important issues and express your opinions.
